[ Personality ]
Hikaru is very introverted in nature, taking after his father's personality. He is often potrayed as a cold, unfeeling and solitary person in a nutshell. On his face, a scowl is often present, and if said scowl was absent, a glare would take its place, only rarely a smirk would be seen on that face of his. He is generally a very difficult person to approach. Often he would brush off those who tried to talk to him with a low “Hn” sound or even just straight up ignore the person. Hikaru is said to have very selective hearing where he regard all small talk as trash and only keep an ear out for music or things that he wishes to hear, though all this is completely voluntary on his part. So when he states that he has selective hearing, it just means that he is subtly insulting you. He is mostly seen sitting alone and drawing or singing or just plain doodling on anything and everything. Not to mention he is very mean when you actually get him to talk.
Hikaru is extremely ticklish which is the very reason as to why he keeps his distance from people. A mere jab to his sides, a slight brush to his neck or chin, a mere touch to his thighs or even a mere exhale of air to his ears will reduce him to a pile of jittery, squirming and giggling mess. He reacts rather violently to people who touches him without warning. He will not hesitate to slap the offending hand away harshly or even, in more serious cases, punch the owner of the offending hand.
Beneath it all, Hikaru is an extremely shy and awkward person. When he finds you tolerable, he will try to be the one to initiate the conversation, though most of the time he will fail as he stutters and stumbles on what words to use so as to not hurt the feelings of his conversational partner. Hikaru has a hard time memorizing words, easily forgetting things like song lyrics (yes, he forgets lyrics as he sings) and music notes. When things like this happen, he gets flustered and in reaction to that, he screams. And boy can he scream
Hikaru may not look like it but he is a relatively helpful person. Even though he doesn't wish to interact with people, once someone direly needs help, he would extend his hand out to help said person. He is actually well-behaved and hard-working despite being mean and violent on the outside. He would never resort to truancy nor anything illegal such as doing drugs and he is always focused on his school work. He could get very determined when he is sure of what he wants, and he is often seen as ambitious. But of course, everything is done so passively, that no one would have guessed he was working hard to be better.
Hikaru is very sensitive to cold weather. He often fall sick during the winter seasons. Thus he is often seen wearing a vest or a jacket, even during spring and summer.

”History…? Not that it’s any of your business, but… well…”
Hikaru came from a well-off pure Japanese family, not too overly-rich yet still have enough to live better than others. His father was a well-known surgeon, whom have had saved several lives through surgery. Articles of his father as well as his pictures can easily be found in the newspapers, and many know of his father’s name, Shiratori Daichi. His mother, on the other hand, was an established writer, who has published several bestsellers, some of which was even made into movies. Her face and name has been plastered into far too many books to count and her name been mentioned in far too many movies to care, Shiratori Aiko. Needless to say, the success of his parents allowed them to have a comfortable life even though the couple were most of the time busy with their individual jobs.
Hikaru is the youngest of six siblings- his first three elder sisters were triplets (Masami, Megumi and Minori), all aged 21, his 4th sister, Kiyomi, aged 19 and his fraternal (non-identical) twin sister, Hiromi. Hiromi and Hikaru have different birthdays. Hiromi was born at 11.45pm on the 10th. Instead of following right after, Hikaru lingered in his mother for 30 more minutes before her mother complained of another contraction. Hikaru was an unexpected child, as the doctors were unable to detect him during the ultrasounds that they conducted on Aiko. Apparently, Hikaru was hidden away from the ultrasound by Hiromi, whom pretty much pushed the fetus Hikaru behind her. Due to this, Hikaru didn’t get as much nutrition as Hiromi did during the 9 months, which resulted in his smaller stature and his slightly more fragile health. Aiko used to joke quite a lot to her relatives about Hikaru being too shy for the ultrasound, which embarrassed Hikaru on more than one occasion.
Besides being the youngest and the only son, Hikaru was the odd duck among his siblings. All of his sisters, including his own twin, have deep dark red wavy hair, courtesy of his mother’s own lovely red curls. His hair, however, was a light pink and it was straight like hay, courtesy of his dad. His sisters all have deep blue eyes like his father, while his was an odd shade of green; like, yes you guessed it, his mother. Being the odd one out of the lot, he was often picked on by the oldest three, being called names like ‘Odd duck’, ‘Wrong child brought home’ and even ‘adopted’. It didn’t help that his facial features was rather feminine, from his roundish face to his fluttery long eyelashes. Not to mention that he had a birthmark on his left cheek that was shaped slightly like a heart, though said mark was only slightly darker than his skin, barely noticeable. It irked him due to the fact that his sisters had flawless faces, thus is why he chose to cover it with a small white tape. The mole under his right eye was too close to his eye for him to cover with tape, so he let it be.
More than once, he was forced into dresses and acted as his sisters’ mannequin. His parents were too busy to help him, while their caretakers were too lenient. Hiromi had to step up and be the most reasonable of the 5 sisters, protecting him from most of his other sisters’ onslaught. This went on for the first few years of his life, which was enough to develop him into a rather submissive and shy boy, whom always needed the support of his twin sister and had longed believe that words were only meant to hurt.
At age 4, Hikaru was placed into a different yochien from Hiromi. He was placed into a public yochien to allow him to meet other people rather than a private one that most ‘rich’ families sent their child to. Without the support of his twin sister, Hikaru was vulnerable and felt very awkward in the crowd. He was far too used to clinging onto the shirt of his sister in his previous hoikuen, so now he felt bare in front of the other children without his ‘shield’. On the first day, many of the children were intrigued at his pale pink hair, not many had such a shade of hair after all, and would often approach him to touch the pink locks. Hikaru was fine with this, as long as they didn’t pull. Till, a girl accidentally brushed her fingers against his neck while touching his hair. A giggle escaped his lips due to the ticklish feeling. The girl stared at him before looking at the teacher, and loudly inquired the following.
“Are you shure he ish not a gurl?”.
The whole classroom laughed at this, some even calling him ‘a girly girl with cooties’. Oh how embarrassed he was! The embarrassment and the feeling of being bare in front of a crowd all burst out in one rush, and he screamed. Well, that shut the class up and all the large eyes were trained on him. Since that day, he regarded any physical contact to his person as ‘bad touch’ and screaming makes everyone stare. Thus, to keep himself from feeling vulnerable, he needed to keep the attention off of him which was why he kept his mouth shut. There were times when the kids were braver, and teased him quite a bit. However so, some made the mistake of doing that in front of Hiromi, when she came with his caretaker to fetch him, whom then gave them a glare and a sound scolding. Hikaru, whom saw the glare, made a mental note to learn how to do such a look. If one look could keep people away, it would mean that all he needed to do is look like that all the time and people won’t come near him, and won’t touch him, risking another embarrassing incident! On that day itself, the first thing he did when he reached home was to run up to his room and stare at the mirror, twisting and turning his face into a scary scowl and a deadly glare. Eventually, he stopped needing the protection of his sister.
At age 6, Hikaru’s cherub face was twisted into an angry scowl that looked rather off on such an adorable face. But it was the same scowl that scared all of his classmates in shogakko (elementary school). Sure it means that he practically had no friends, but for the sake of his pride, he kept his facade up. There were some whom tried to befriend him. Their words fell upon deaf ears, after all Hikaru found absolutely no point in words anymore. His sisters had long proven how painful words could be so he has no reason to take in the words of others that could potentially hurt more. Simplistic thinking, as expected of a child. Hikaru found the hard way that some could just talk and talk his deaf ears off, and wouldn’t stop till they receive some kind of response. So he merely exhaled out loudly, listened to the ‘Hn’ sound he made and watched the reactions of his one-sided conversational partner. They gave up talking to him right after forcing several more ‘Hn’s from him. Although he was avoided quite a lot due to his mannerism, he had most of the girls in his shokaggo crushing on him due to his adorable features.
At age 12, in 1st grade of chugakko (Junior High), Hikaru experienced his first crush, ever. It was an adorable girl of the same class as he was with long black hair and the loveliest pink eyes. Hikaru was enamoured at the lovely shade of pink said eyes were and found himself thinking of the eyes quite a bit which was the reason as to why he allowed several guys to befriend him, because they were all friends with the girl. If he was their friends, he at least could be the girl’s friend’s friend, and hopefully one day be introduced to her. One of the guys, a blue haired boy named Oimikado Kai, became his best friend, even though it was self-proclaimed on the blue boy’s part at first, and chose to stick to Hikaru like glue. The boy was smart, though rather noisy, but he was tolerable. One time, Kai asked him, “What would you say if the teacher place a cup with water in front of you and ask “Is it half full or half empty?””
“Nothing. I’ll drink it.”
That had caused Kai to stare at him incredulously one moment and burst out laughing in the next, his arm around Hikaru’s shoulder as he tumbled in laughter. Hikaru became flustered and started to explain himself, not liking how bad he was being laughed at. Thankfully, Kai said that Hikaru was a funny guy, although he didn’t meant to be hilarious, and that he liked that about Hikaru. With a blush, Hikaru quieten down and fumbled with his thumbs, not used to the compliment. Needless to say, Kai continued to stick to Hikaru even more after finding out how shy he really was.
Kai was also the first person to ever give Hikaru a birthday present, seeing how others never got close enough to even know of his birthday. When Hikaru told Kai on his birthday itself, the boy smacked him on the head and yelled to tell him sooner. In a flustered panic, Kai went to buy him something out of obligation. It ended up being a black cat plush toy, which Kai embarrassingly shoved into Hikaru’s hands the day after his birthday… Hikaru was speechless as he stared at the cat, and looked up at Kai and asked how he knew that Hikaru adored cats. It was a lucky guess on Kai’s part, laughing it up and joking that Hikaru looked like a cat lover and that he would look extremely adorable with cat ears. With a blush, Hikaru shoved his hand at Kai’s face and pushed him away, stomping off in embarrassment, while Kai ran after him, laughing.
It was also Kai whom introduced him to the world of music, mostly J-rock, when they were both 16. Hikaru was pleasantly surprised when he found that noise, loud ones at that, could be extremely pleasing to his ears. Kai was utterly shocked when Hikaru stated he liked the J-rock genre, complaining that Hikaru couldn’t even handle his chatter but could stand listening to singers scream their lungs out. This caused Hikaru to laugh, the first time Kai heard him laugh. The two of them wasted quite a lot of time after school singing along to music in Hikaru’s home, Kai thoroughly amused seeing Hikaru having to continuously grab the lyrics to sing along. Due to his liking of J-rock, Hikaru was very interested in learning how to play the electric guitar. When he told this to Kai, the blue haired boy merely grab Hikaru’s left hand, and stroked his fingers, saying that such soft fingers would get ruined from pressing on the strings and sliding it against the neck of the guitar but Hikaru was undeterred, if not a bit weirded out at how Kai was touching his fingers tenderly. So he decided to look up on how to play the electric guitar online, not wanting to bother his parents with what could be a fleeting interest, but he did had to ask his parents to get him an electric guitar, to which they readily agreed to, glad that Hikaru found something that he liked to do.
Remember that girl he got his first crush on? Hikaru finally gotten the chance to hang out with her when Kai invited him to go to a karaoke with their group of guys as well as some girls, the girl that Hikaru was crushing on was invited as well. To say that Hikaru was a nervous wreck was an understatement as he fidgeted and fumbled with his thumbs on his seat. Kai, who sat beside him, could only offer him a comforting smile and a pat to the head. When it was Hikaru’s turn to sing, Kai had to literally drag the pink haired boy up to the machine and inserted Hikaru’s favourite song in. The group was rather amused seeing how flustered Hikaru was, and their amused smiles were proof of that. Thankfully the song that Kai chose was a duet of sorts, so he stayed up there with Hikaru to sing with him. When one of the screaming parts came on, Kai gave Hikaru the signal.
Feeling the same feeling as he did when he was 4, the embarrassment and the feeling of being bare in front of a crowd, Hikaru let out a scream at the designated timing, screaming out the lyrics. Everyone in room, even Kai, was astounded at the scream. Kai had never heard him scream like so, sure he had heard several screams from Hikaru, but those were mostly half hearted. But this one actually sounded awesome. With a large smile, he finished the song with a scream of his own. The group applauded loudly at it, all throwing compliments at Hikaru and Kai, telling them that they were great. With some lessons and training, the two of them would make great singers. Later, when they went for dinner and dessert as group, the girl whom Hikaru adored, came to sit beside him and talked to him for the first time, gushing at how nice he sounded and how handsome he was. Kai snickered on the other side of him, while Hikaru could only nod and blush lightly. The girl even offered him some sakura mochi, in which he took a liking to instantly.
A few weeks after that, a few weeks of getting to know the girl, it was revealed that the girl actually already owned a boyfriend, breaking Hikaru’s heart rather badly. Kai was there, back in Hikaru’s room, to comfort the poor guy, allowing him to stuff himself with sakura mochi and other various sweets. Hikaru was an emotional wreck, crying onto Kai’s shoulder and clinging onto Kai’s shirt. Kai at that age was much taller than Hikaru, whom was stunted due to his malnutrition as a fetus. Kai was unsure of what to do, merely patting the poor boy on the head. When the sobbing didn’t cease, Kai could only think of one thing to make Hikaru feel better. Pulling the pink haired boy’s face closer, Kai planted a kiss on Hikaru’s lips, effectively making the smaller boy squeak and blush a vivid red. While it did stop Hikaru from feeling extremely devastated, it made him feel extremely flustered. And so, yes, he screamed.
Fortunately, the two of them didn’t have a falling out due to that kiss, both shyly agreed to not talk about it, and that Kai merely did so to make Hikaru feel better. It did however made Hikaru think about how it would be to fall for a guy. He stared at Kai as he thought of that, thinking if his partner was nice and would treat him fairly, it shouldn’t matter what gender… Kai revealed that he was actually queer, surprising Hikaru quite a tad, but he told Hikaru that, sure he have had crushes on the pink haired boy, but now he felt that their friendship is more than enough.
Soon enough, they had to part ways due to Kai going overseas to study medicine. At the airport, Kai fumbled with his bag before pulling out a sheet of paper and giving it to Hikaru, along with a wrapped present.
” H-here. You said that you wanted to learn how to sing better yeah..? And play the electric guitar better… Maybe you should enrol yourself into that school!”
Hikaru didn’t really looked into the flyer, folding it up and placing it into his pocket, because he was far too saddened at the fact that his only best friend was leaving him, Kai gave him a smile as his flight announcement was heard.
“ I’ll see you when I get back in a few years, yeah? Hope you are successful in whatever you choose to take,”
“ Hn.” ” Was all Hikaru said as he clutched onto the wrapped box. He was far too emotional to speak. The taller boy gave him a brief kiss to the lips, as a comfort kiss, before turning away and walked towards the barrier. Hikaru’s shoulders shook at how vulnerable he felt, the feeling of being bare filling him once more. Kai had always been there for the past 3-4 years, he was Hikaru’s pillar, and now he was leaving Hikaru. With a small cry, the tears fell from his eyes as he screamed something to Kai. The blue haired boy turned, and gave him a wide eyed stare, before his pink eyes softened and a smile bloomed on his lips. With a wave, he replied with an answering scream before proceeding on.
At home, eyes red and puffed from crying, Hikaru finally opened the present that Kai gave him. His eyes widened when he saw it a box of pink guitar picks, but what shocked him was the pair of detachable cat ears, which he could easily attach to any headphones, sitting innocently beside box of picks. Hikaru couldn’t help but laugh at this, that idiot. After attaching it to his current headphones, which was also given to him by Kai last year, he placed the headphones on his head, and grinned. He did look adorable. He then noticed something poking out of his pocket and remembered the flyer. Pulling it out, he stared at the flyer. Saotome High. Maybe he should try it out. He did after all enjoy singing, even though the singing in front of a crowd is going to be a challenge, but he was sure he could do it. With a nod and a smile, he ran out of his room to find his mother, and tell her of his wishes. In the back of his mind, two voices rang clearly, the words that were said in the airport repeating itself.
“Itsumo kimi o matte iru yo!!!” (I’ll be waiting for you)
“Sugo modori masu!!!” (I’ll be right back!)
[ Additional Info ]
- All of his favourite items are given by Kai.
- His stage name ‘HIMEI’, is pretty much the cue that Kai gave him to scream during the karaoke session.
- He extremely love sakura mochi. Honestly, giving him some would make you in his tolerable list in a snap.
- He is pretty okay with the electric guitar, and can play music on it by memory, though, he can’t read music notes. He knows the position of the notes on the guitar, but not on paper. So if you give him a music sheet, he will give you a face that clearly say ‘What in the world is this thing?!’.
- When he sings, he impromptu quite a lot, and add screams here and there. Either because he felt embarrassed of him forgetting the lyrics or just for the sake of screaming.
- No. He is not in love with Kai. He merely sees him as a brother he will never have.
- Hikaru is left handed, which explains why the tape is on his right hand instead of his left. He presses on the strings with his right hand.
- He owns an iPod Shuffle, those tiny square MP3, that he places in his front pocket.
